The Physical Man

The Physical Man

The outward man is the soul, not the body. The body is the physical man or “flesh and bones.” This kind of “flesh” is not the same “flesh” of which the New Testament generally speaks. As previously mentioned, the “flesh” refers to the carnal mind. The body of man is simply the container or vessel for the spirit and the soul.

The Scriptures make reference to the body as the temple of the Holy Ghost. I Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us, What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye

are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. Our body is either Satan’s

temple or God’s temple, depending upon our choices. The body is also a receiver. The senses of the physical man are hearing,

sight, touch, taste, and smell. These five senses are given to protect the body. When they are under the influence of the Holy Spirit,

they are properly tuned and serve man perfectly. However, under Satan’s dominion, they are used to fulfil the lusts of the flesh. If

we do not properly choose the things that pass through these sensors, we find that soon the body is out of balance and control and

we are indulging in things that are harmful to us.

The body has no power of its own to decide what it will do; it simply obeys the commands of the spirit and the soul. It only follows, or “tags along with,” the inner man. For example, when I awake in the morning, my body will not get out of bed until I make a decision to get up. It will lie there as long as I decide to allow it to stay in bed. When I make the decision to get out ofbed, then my body follows me. If we train our bodies to rise early they will respond by rising early. If we indulge in extra sleep, they will respond after that manner.
